As people grow older, the skin of the face begins to wrinkle and sag. Exposure to the sun, genetic influences and other factors can contribute to the effects of aging. A facelift can correct these conditions and give people a more youthful appearance. This procedure involves the tightening of facial and neck skin and muscles, as well as the removal of excess skin. Facelift incisions are placed in areas where they are minimally visible. The objective is to elevate the underlying structures and redrape the skin on the face in order to give a more youthful, healthy and rested appearance.
The surgery is performed routinely on an outpatient basis in our AAAHC nationally certified surgery center. The discomfort associated with a facelift is usually minimal to moderate. Bruising and swelling are expected, but this will usually resolve in ten days to two weeks following the surgery. As with any plastic surgery procedure, the healing process with a facelift is gradual and final results may not be apparent for several weeks, but the benefits from the surgery will last for years.

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid tucks, are very common in patients beginning in their 30's and 40's. This is a procedure to remove fat, along with excess skin, from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and the puffy bags under the eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel. The effect is to give the eyes a more rested, youthful look with a brighter appearance. Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both and can also be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures.

The Procedure: The blepharoplasty procedure takes approximately one hour depending on the extent of the surgery and is normally performed on an outpatient basis. You will need someone to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours following surgery. Post-operative discomfort is minimal with eyelid surgery. You should expect some swelling and bruising following the surgery, which can usually be covered with make-up after about 5-7 days. As with any plastic surgery procedure, healing is a gradual process but the positive results of your blepharoplasty will last for years

A variety of techniques are now available for lip enhancement. The purpose of lip enhancement is to give the lips a fuller and therefore more youthful appearance.
Restylane®, Juvèderm™, and Perlane replacement therapy replacement therapy can offer excellent immediate results. However, like your own collagen, your body will eventually absorb this and ongoing treatment is necessary to maintain results. Treatments generally last more than 6 months, but each individual reabsorbs the "filler" at varying rates, so results can be different.
Injections are performed in the office and can be done on your lunch hour. More permanent methods are available through fat grafting and "alloderm" grafting. More permanent methods are available through lip implants. These special implants can be easily placed under local anesthesia in our office surgical suite and you are typically able to drive yourself home immediately thereafter. Swelling and some bruising will usually be present immediately following the procedure and can take up to two weeks to completely disappear.

A browlift or forehead lift can dramatically improve the appearance of your face and make you look years younger. Often performed in combination with a facelift or eyelid surgery, a brow lift restores drooping brows and decreases frown lines. These lines can deepen over time and present a sad or angry illusion.
A classic brow lift involves an incision from the top of one ear to the other. This is done either in the hairline or in front of the hairline if there has been some hair recession. Extra skin is trimmed and the underlying muscles are smoothed out and sutured into place.

A minimally invasive brow lift is done by making several small incisions through which the muscles can be accessed and skin can be trimmed and sutured.
Brow lifts are generally done under sedation or general anesthesia. Recovery time is usually a week for bruising and swelling to decrease.

Facial implants can enhance your appearance by providing proper proportion and balance to your face. They may be used in conjunction with other surgical procedures, such as a forehead, facelift or nasal surgery to restore a more youthful look.
Surgery to place your cheek implants is a day surgery procedure and you will often be asleep or simply sedated for the procedure. Cheek implants may be placed through incisions made inside your upper lip or through external incisions, if the cheek implant is being done in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery.
Following surgery, you may feel swollen and numb for a few weeks. These sensations will gradually disappear. External skin sutures will be removed in five to seven days. Sutures inside your lip will dissolve on their own.
You may have some concerns regarding the use of facial implants because they are made of silicone. Several years ago there was a restriction placed on silicone gel breast implants by the FDA. Cheek implants were never included in this restriction because they are solid and not filled with silicone gel.

Cosmetic chin surgery is usually performed to correct a receded, weak chin or a chin that is too strong and juts forward.
A receded chin can be treated with two different options, a chin implant or a genioplasty. There are pros and cons of each.
A chin implant is made of solid silicone and is available in different sizes. It is placed over the bony chin through an incision inside the lower lip or under the chin. It is often placed at the same time a face/neck lift is done, as a stronger chin will improve the appearance of the neck lift.

For patients who desire a younger appearance of the mid-face and brow without undergoing a facelift or brow lift, a new minimally invasive procedure is available. FDA-approved Contour Threads™ are thin, flexible sutures that are threaded underneath the skin from the ear to the hairline to rejuvenate sagging foreheads, eyebrows and cheeks. When the threads are pulled gently, tiny barbs lift the sagging tissue into a subtly higher, more youthful position that reflects the patient's natural facial contours. The sutures are left in place to maintain the effects, which are further enhanced and supported over time as the body produces natural collagen and elastin fibers around the threads. The entire procedure takes about an hour under local anesthesia.
Contour Threads™ are colorless, so they can't be seen even in patients with pale or thin skin. They are made of polypropylene, a material used in surgical stitches. The threads can be removed later on for patients who choose to have a facelift or brow lift or who wish to reverse the procedure.
