Liposuction is a body sculpting procedure and removes deposits of excess fat from specific areas of your body.
Liposuction can be helpful for women and men who are of relatively normal weight but have isolated pockets of fat that cause areas of their body to appear disproportionate. These localized fat deposits may sometimes be an inherited trait and typically do not respond to dieting or exercise. Liposuction is often the only way to eliminate them. Areas that are commonly treated with liposuction include the abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, upper arms, neck and chin. While it is possible to undergo liposuction at almost any age, you will obtain the best results if your skin still has enough elasticity to achieve a smooth contour following fat removal.
Liposuction is performed by inserting a small, hollow tube called a cannula, through one or more tiny incisions near the area to be suctioned. Incisions are usually less than one-half inch long and are placed within underwear or swimsuit lines. The cannula is connected to a vacuum pressure unit. The cannula vacuums away the unwanted fat.

Tumescent liposuction is a technique in which the areas of fat are infused with saline solution and local anesthetic prior to using the cannula to remove the fat. This will reduce post-operative bruising and makes the final skin contour smoother.
The procedure is done as a day surgery operation. You will be most comfortable if you are under a light general anesthetic. A compression garment (girdle) will be put on you before you leave the operating room. You will feel sore from bruising and swelling but most patients do not complain of pain after a few days. You will wear the compression garment for usually 6-8 weeks. This compression helps reduce swelling, bruising, and minimize skin irregularities. You may return to your usual daily activities as you feel like it, but we recommend no strenuous exercise for three weeks although walking outdoors can usually begin the next day and light exercise within one week.

The procedure takes approximately two to five hours and can be performed with general anesthesia or local anesthesia with a sedative. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting. abdominoplasty will likely leave a permanent scar stretching between the hips, although it should be low enough for even a bikini to conceal it.
